SUBORDINATE CONJUNCTION POETRY
Our Wildcat Writers have written imitations that were inspired by the poem "If" by Rudyard Kipling in order to learn how to write rhyme schemes, how to put subordinate conjunctions in a poem (words like because, if, who, until, etc.), and how to use meter (the number of syllables in a line). We just want to show creativity and outside of the box thinking for our freshmen class. Enjoy!

Questioning How by Sandra Anderson
With no umbrella how will you stop the rain?
With all the lies how can you stand the shame?
How will the medicine help without the pain?
Can you take a chance without any game?
How can you fall without being pushed forward?
Can you beat a case with so many crimes?
How can you break the code without a codeword?
Can you prove you are patient without time?
How can the world be saved without a hero?
How can you feel the music with no beat?
How can you count without starting at zero?
How can the summer be hot with no heat?
How can you be a winner if you don’t lose?
Why is there a rainbow after a storm?
How do you watch women sing the sad blues?
How can you sit here and read this sad poem?

If You Are by Niree Bailey
If you can smile when the world turns upside down
You are the one who lives without regrets
If you can laugh when everything is counting down
Then you will be the one who’s going next
If you can trust you will be used in such way
You will learn from mistakes you had made
If you can believe the you dream away
You will fight that battle and never be outweighed
If you are so brave then you will celebrate
You will be that person who inspired
If you get upset it will be ahead, ack
Then you will be the one who desired
If you can see when everyone else is blind
Then you will be able to see it through
If you see that one thing that will be a sign
Then all at the end it all will come true

Although by Malik M. Brown
Although he has a big heart, his size is small
He is like a Smurf in a land of giants
but just like Michael Jordan he sure can ball
Although he is small he is strong like pants
he can shoot like Stephen and dunk like Lebron
but people still underestimate him
Although he is little, he is like Lebron
his shot is so crisp and smoove like a trim
Although he is little, he has a big heart
he doesn’t play to lose he plays to win
he runs while people try to tear him apart
but that’s hard when you’re barely five-foot-ten
Although he is not that fast he is shifty
he moves so quick people call him quick feet
Although he is very quick he is nifty
so that is why he knows he is elite.

Why by Nicholas Calloway
Why do you seem to mind my business?
maybe because you are a lame, lame, lame
Why do you go work out? Why do you need fitness?
Maybe if you lose weight you will gain some fame.
Why don’t you grow up and become a man dude?
Maybe because you still live with your mom
All she tells you to do is stop being rude
And stay off the streets before you get mobbed
Or those boys might see you and you getting jumped on
You should keep a gun just for your safety
Man look now you got her pregnant, having a son
You ain’t got no job, boy you must be crazy
Matter of fact you have to go, get out
And take care of your child don't ever come back
Until you're grown and don’t be slick what’s that about
I’m glad your out, out, out, and never going back

Give it Your All by Tyler Carothers
After you gave it your all what's next to do?
After you gave it your all there’s no hope
Now you have to think and think what’s next for you?
After you’ve worked and worked you climb the rope
After you work hard and get tired you still push
after you work and lose you work harder
After you come to a stopping point they look
You put in your all you, now go farther
After you’ve made it all the way you're a king
But you look up in the sky and chase it
Now you can have the championship big ring
After they hate you just win and face it
After your work has paid off you don’t know how
After your work has paid you don't know why
After your work is done you have a big crowd
After your work has paid off you can fly

Worrying About Others by Carliysia Clark
When you doubt us and not worry about you.
Are we the ones to blame or is it you?
When no one really gives attention to you.
Being put down won’t help you get around.
When you can laugh but not feel so happy too.
Or, is it hard being the city clown?
Or, starting conflict with everyone one in sight
And so tired of all the continued lies.
When you can believe and not believe so much.
When you can take so much but not enough.
When you believe in something but there’s no such.
And everything you do is very tough.
When you can not tell one truth without lying.
Confused about the ones who are hating.
When you lay there thinking about not dying.
And feel like you are tired of waiting

You Can Do It If You Put Your Mind To It! By Luezarn Cooper-Voss
Since you are important you are valuable.
Even though you feel like you don’t exist.
Some people tell you, you are limitable.
Don’t cry because you are told to resist.
Deep down inside you have a large ego.
Go ahead when you're ready, let it out.
One day you will see yourself in a limo.
Since people will just love to see you pout.
You can do it if you put your mind to it.
Live out loud your life is your destiny.
Be brighter than a neon color outfit.
You will be yourself for eternity.
You are very beautiful deep down inside.
You are powerful beyond your measure.
You must try to keep up your amazing pride.
People come greet you just for your pleasure.

Until… by Maya Erving
Until you realize how much a person can take
You’ll notice they didn’t fake the pain.
Stereotyping is another ache.
Instead of making people feel plain.
Until more people become very intelligent.
and we can start it with becoming jovial.
Wait no, we can start with being diligent.
Work together to make it official.
Together is how we should work forever.
Help others shine brighter than those who fail.
Always be positive and fear no one never,
Flip your coin into an old wishing well
Until you realize how people can take,
you will notice they weren’t faking the pain.
Stereotyping isn’t the best partake.
It’s just another way to make people feel shamed.

Although by Brenda Farley
Although you don't care, but I do, so why share?
I don’t want to intrude but you need help,
Although you say you're alone you might be tired.
Even though you led up and fed up take steps,
Although it may seem hard before don't give up.
Don't listen you are better than them all,
Although you are dry of wisdom, here have a cup,
Don't just go running keep tall and stand tall.
Although it's hopeless, don't give in or surrender
Don’t let it get to you, don’t pick and toss
Wait! Did I say stand tall and wise, be slender
So who cares what they think leave them, their loss
Although quitting may sound good, don't do it please
You are not hopeless, broken, or a joke
Go through the pain because you can say at least
I didn't break down because you call me slow.

Because by Chrisshawn Furdge
Because I play because you hate I am great
Calling me names but I really don’t care
Because you are glad I am mad now your bait
I’m blowing you up now you're in the air
Because I aim high you are down low and slow
All this slang you speak is just from the South
My words are frightening like lightning so they flow
Can you really shut your little old mouth
Shining like a diamond is always alright dude
Don’t hate me, just appreciate me okay?
Because you’re at the top don’t even be rude
don’t think I am for a second say hey
You sting like bee but will never be me
Rock them that’s really what it’s all about
Really go sit down and drink a lot of tea
Continuously I just knock them out

Although by Daurice Lee
Although you feel like you are a nobody,
people look at you like you are a star.
You were put on this earth for somebody,
maybe to study things that are bizarre.
Although you know you are highly talented,
and know how to deal with situations.
You must face the challenging challenges,
with creation and determination.
Although your emotions don’t always show it,
you are the most cheerful person they’ve met.
And you make it hard for them all to transmit,
and that is something you don’t regret.
Although you say no to things you like,
you think about what you have done today.
Like walking your dog and riding your red bike
and leaving out after breakfast to play.

Basketball! by Skye Minter
Although basketball is challenging you must
try your hardest to win and do your best
you have to be quick, make people see your dust
push yourself to the hole make a basket
Basketball is one of my favorite sports
The more you push the faster you will move
try your hardest and do your best on the court
you have to show people you're the best, prove.
Although you try your best, be better than rest
basketball is going to cause big commitment
when you are tired you must open your chest
stay close to teammates don’t become distant
make sure you’re always prepared, shoes, uniform
basketball comes with lots of sportsmanship
be able to help your teammates and inform
Although it’s hard do good get scholarships.

Cause and Effect by Xavier Nash
Because you miss school you are the biggest fool
you don’t care about anyone but wealth
because you broke a lot of rules you’re a tool
you don’t even care about your own health
because you were stung by a big bumble bee
you always start problems for no reason
you’ll never know where to find the honey tree
because of the war there’ll be a treason
you make people angry without any care
because you like to talk you will be slapped
because you like to be clean, clean out the air
you have not been the same since you’ve last rapped
you will not be loved for the bad that you do
you will work at a dirty gas station
you will always act bad when you’re with your crew
you will always be in isolation.

Before You Do by Brianna Parks
Before you doubt yourself think of others first,
And think of how they feel deep inside,
For they might feel bad or maybe even worse,
And you will never notice if they hide.
Before your bad thoughts get way out of hand,
Take a deep breath and lay back in your bed,
Get someone’s opinion; maybe a close friend,
Think of happy thoughts, let them clear you head.
I’m feeling kind of confident in myself,
Today I think it will be a good day,
I’m a little worried about life and health,
I know it will get better in some way.
If I sit in a quiet room and listen,
I think I could hear my heartbeat,
Or maybe I could not but if all depends,
I am really tired, It’s time to go to sleep.

If Only You Knew, You Would Understand by Jealissa Presswood
If you can keep standing when everything falls
and never lose focus and stay strong forever.
If you feel like you are being chased by jaws
got this far and it felt like you could never.
If you can feel the pain I have in my body
and only I was there he would’ve been alive
If you had felt the hurt my mom had Tuesday
you would feel like apart of you had died.
My deepest fear is that I am powerful beyond measure
and often, in my eyes i shine like a star.
If you feel like someone you love will never die
it’s only seconds you can say goodbye.
If only you can feel what i feel inside
you will hate your life to the point you die
If only you think I’m getting by, slowly
i'm putting bandages on my biggest cut,
LIFE!

You Can’t Do What You Want To Do Until by Kenneth Sanders
Until you are dead they won't appreciate
Until you had your heart broke you won’t cry
Until they see you lose they will always hate
Until you face the truth you are a lie
Until you kidnap you won’t get a ransom
Until you forgive you won’t forget that
Until you have feet you can’t be a dancer
Until you eat you can’t get that much fat
Until you go to school your mind is so weak
Until you are happy they’re not happy
Until you wash your clothes they will always reek
Until you are rich you won’t have pappy
Until you workout your core you won’t be strong
Until you have family you are lonely
Until you are twenty one you are not grown
Until you are in touch you are phony

If Only by Dondre Savage
If only you were being told the right things.
Even though you are close to falling down.
Even though you are someone's else offspring.
If I was to fall down, would you be around?
If things don’t always go your way think about better days.
If we couldn't change our ways, who could we blame?
Before you get dropped in the wrong blaze.
All of the lost things you wouldn't be able to claim.
If your family told you they were “Done.”
If you couldn't go home and live on.
Where would you be able to duck and run?
Do you think family would make a clone?
What if they walk past you like you was no one?
If life didn't go on without you.
Wouldn't you pick up a gun.
But who would you be able to shoot?

If You Can Dance, Move! By Brandi Smith
If you can dance and not trip over your feet
If you can hear the beat let it play
Get up and follow the rhythm of the beat
Dance til you can’t feel your feet and they’re gray
If you can bear the rhythm of music
And your feet not feel like clay and worn out
If you can let your feet meet the music
Then you are a true dancer with no doubt.
If you can force your feet and heart to keep tune
Your feet will soon be tired and burned out
you are a natural who is dance immune
And never breathe a word or even an pout
If you can force yourself to keep moving move
To turn off your feet will never be able
If you can’t feel the beat all bye-bye groove
If you can turn it off you are capable.

Who Are You? By Kristina Smith
Who are you to tell me all that I can do?
I am me so shouldn’t I have a choice.
Who are you to tell me all that I can do?
I will stand up to you I have a voice!
I want to be a coach maybe a singer
A doctor a lawyer or a big plant
Astronaut, pilot or maybe a leader
A ladybug, a butterfly or ant
Who are you to tell me all that I can do?
I can fly to the sky and eat rainbows
I can turn into the sun and shine on you
You will be amazed at how bright she glows
At the end of the day I am only me
A girl, a normal everyday person
A girl full of glee I am me
I am a girl, a normal average person

A Dreadful Sight by Terrell Smith
“Who”? the bird said sitting on flower heads
The bird will go when the wind doth blow snow
Who will I be if I made the bird bleed red
Where can he go in the blizzarding snow
Salvation the bird seeks is what he shall find
Who am I to disbelieve in the birds
For humans are the best in a birds plain mind
Who is a bird to trust me me for I’m absurd.
I am a pillow made out of birds' feathers
Who is a scientist to do such things
The bird asked me a blunt question, would I rather
He is no better than a crooked wing
Who am I to kill birds and their old home ways
or sleep in a bird's agonizing pain
Who are we to be judge on how we fly so gay
We are humans who forgive you in vein.

Who Are You by J’kyra Space
Who are you to tell me how to fell inside
Pain agony regret is how I feel
Pain because my feelings are pushed aside
Wondering can you keep your feelings sealed
Stripped away so no one can judge you
Love without tragedy is what you hear
Well tragedy is a word instilled by you
But I still have to live my life in fear
Who are you to tell me what to live by, son
Regret happens when I listen to him
Living my life where I’m always on the run
Looking at my future it looks real dim
Agony from thinking stuff over again
Death from the past repeating like a show
Moving on will take lots of self discipline
Drake was right when he said “Good Ones Go”

One Thing Causes Another to Happen by Woodrow Turner
Although you might be sad and inside bad pain
you keep going and never turn around.
Although you have a fear of going insane
keep the truth of what you are feeling now.
True that one day you might just be reborn
please do not worry about disaster.
You could continue to run, run forward on
young one remember to run faster.
Although your dreams and fantasies may be crushed
you may feel better with a single hug.
Believing the people you have always trusted
treat the nightmares as a little small bug.
Although you may not always trusting your friend
we yell, dance, eat, sleep, and think together.
We are true friends therefore we will never end
Together we will stay here forever.

Family Times by Malik Ware
Although family tends to fight each other.
They still care as much as they did before.
Although the care seems to come from the mother.
But I still can’t wait till she hits the door.
We talk and wait till Thanksgiving passes us up.
We play games and we love to sit back now.
Now we are sitting here like we are sitting ducks.
Although the kids are blank asking me how.
Although it is over and its time to chill.
Regular families seem to calm down.
Although its the time when the family gets real.
They will never leave without a big frown.
Although it can be the time we all have fun.
This is the holiday that isn’t whack.
It seem to be the time when all the kids run.
Now its over we all have to go back.

Get Up and Dream On by Jameesha Williams
Why are you so scared to face your greatest dreams
When you can succeed better than you think.
Why not follow them it’s better then it seem.
Why are you so scared of that just dream pink.
Why wouldn't you want something better and big?
Why don’t you take a deep breath and try it?
Why are you so scared of it come on let’s dig.
Why are you so down and sad in the pits?
Why are you still laying there? Get up and fly.
Why do we got to push you to do right?
Why do you want to just sit there and go? BYE!
Why are you just chillin, it’s not that tight?
Why are you not up I will be there every………
Step of the way come on man lets do this
Why why lets show you the best just carry…….
Now you are up do you want a big kiss?

If by Tecora Wiley
I sit at the window staring at life.
I see kids throwing snowballs all filled with joy.
I see out walking a husband and wife.
Hey there is my best friend, Oh his name is Troy.
I smell hot chocolate with fudge inside.
Oh great here comes my irritating brother.
My little brother came up just to hide.
He was hiding from my sister and mother.
The Christmas carolers sang at my door.
I see Christmas colors like red, green, and blue.
I liked the outfits that they all had wore.
I was talking to one and he know kung fu.
I looked up to see that the sun had set.
My bedroom I go to put on my pj’s.
I asked my mom was my cousin here yet.
I want my hair done in some brown crawshay's.
With no umbrella how will you stop the rain?
With all the lies how can you stand the shame?
How will the medicine help without the pain?
Can you take a chance without any game?
